Lakeland Provincial Recreation Area

Lakeland Provincial Recreation Area is about 50 km (30 mi) southeast of Lac La Biche in northern Alberta. Drivers should be aware that the last few kilometres are on access roads, so the route may be difficult for small vehicles. But the drive is worth it. Lakeland Provincial Recreation Area is home to Lakeland Provincial Park, an outdoor recreation paradise. In summer, visitors will find excellent birdwatching, swimming, fishing, power boating and water skiing. There are also several hiking and mountain-biking trails in the area. Winter brings snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and ice fishing. The area offers good trails for ATVs as well. The paddling is truly outstanding. The Lakeland Canoe Circuit is not well known, but it’s one of the best in Alberta. The main circuit is about 38 km (24 mi) long and takes three days to complete. First-come, first-served backcountry camping is available along the route.
