Dog Island Brewing was founded in Sept. 2013 by partners Ben Fiddler and Chad Paulson. In addition to being trade workers in the oil patch, both were also avid home brewers in their hometown of Slave Lake Alberta. With the economic downturn in the oil business, both guys recognized the need to diversify. So they took the leap of faith and started on the adventure of creating their dream project, Dog Island Brewing. They took the plunge and started building a brewery from scratch themselves. Ben learned to weld so he could build customer tables for the tasting room. Everything from design to construction to calibrating their instruments the two do themselves. Finally, on October 28, 2016, they opened their doors. They stuck to their tried and true formula of keeping things fresh and local. Being born and bred in Slave Lake, they focus on servicing the local area first. At this time, their brew is only available in town. Naturally, they welcome visitors to come by the facility and sample their beer. The taproom often partners with local businesses to offer light food choices too. Growlers are available for take-home as well.
